LARGE SITE OF VEZELAY : A territory between culture and nature

"First tourist site in Bourgogne-Franche-Comté with nearly a million visitors each year, Vézelay is known for its basilica and its hill, listed on the UNESCO World Heritage List. Covering an area of 18,561 hectares spread over 18 municipalities, the Grand Site of Vézelay is a rural area whose biodiversity is preserved and recognized thanks to various systems (Natura 2000, ZNIEFF, biotope protection orders, etc.) Located at the northern end of the Morvan Regional Natural Park, the Grand Site de Vézelay forms, for the "eternal hill", a landscaped amphitheater which offers remarkable views of the surrounding bocage and the Cure valley. This exceptional setting has been, and remains, a place of inspiration for many artists. Today there are three “Maisons des Illustres” (Romain Rolland, Jules Roy, Christian and Yvonne Zervos) and major cultural venues including the Zervos Museum and the Cité de la Voix. A territory rich in know-how The Grand Site of Vézelay has a dynamic agricultural and artisanal fabric combining respect for traditions and a sense of innovation. On this territory, recognized professionals work in very varied fields: crafts (sculptor, engraver, jewelry designer, ceramist, restorer of works of art, etc.), food trades (manufacture of oil, beer…) and local producers (wines, cheeses, direct sale of meat and vegetables…)"

"Vézelay: village, basilica and eternal hill. Arriving in Vézelay, which is nicknamed the "eternal hill", one thing is obvious: you will have to climb! Along the way, caught up in this setting which has seen pilgrims from all over Europe, we let ourselves be carried away. Because all the reputation and prosperity of this site is due to this spiritual history: for centuries thousands of pilgrims come to venerate the relics of St Madeleine before continuing on to Santiago de Compostela.

While strolling, we (re)discover the filming scenes of the “Grande Vadrouille”. Vineyard or Renaissance houses, cobbled streets, everything is perfectly preserved. Finally we arrive at the foot of the basilica without realizing it. In front of so much majesty, we say to ourselves that it deserved this little effort!

No wonder that this monument of Christianity, a masterpiece of Romanesque art magnificently restored by Viollet-le-Duc in the 19th century, is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Not to mention the view of the Morvan that opens up to you.

Unforgettable !"

Le Clos des Tilleuls offers, at the foot of the rampart of Vezelay and its basilica, a place of contemplation conducive to rest, meditation and creation. In the immediate vicinity of the shops and restaurants of the village, the Clos allows easy access to the alleys of the Eternal Hill but also to the surrounding hiking trails towards the hamlets or the pilgrimage routes.

The panorama, striking, magnificent, is offered in the middle of the many lime trees of the property. The neighboring vine reinforces this verdant setting which reveals or hides the light stone of the walls and the stairs of the village, up to the towers of the basilica.

The bells of this one punctuate the time at Clos des Tilleuls, between two excursions in the Morvan or the Puisaye, in the churches or the castles, in the museums or the forests.
